Whether SUVs or sedans, Hyundai vehicles have earned more Top Safety Pick awards than any other automotive brand. The recent announcement of the TSP and TSP+ award to the 2021 Hyundai Palisade brings the car maker’s total to eleven.
Hyundai’s headlight design helped push its SUV line over the top. The winning SUVs are the Hyundai Venue, Palisade and Santa Fe with a TSP for specific headlights, the Kona and Tucson with a TSP for optional front crash prevention and specific headlights. The Nexo and Palisade both received the TSP+ award. In the car category, the Sonata won a TSP for specific headlights, while the Elantra, Elantra GT and Veloster were singled out with a TSP for optional front crash prevention and specific headlights.
The TSP awards are granted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The group looks at vehicles that protect drivers and passengers best, and larger cars tend to protect better. The TSP awards began in 2006, and the TSP+ level was added in 2013. The company focuses especially on headlights and front collision warnings, but points out that bigger vehicles, like SUVs, generally protect the driver and passengers better than smaller cars.
Top Safety Pick awards are among the most coveted honors in the automotive industry. Hyundai’s long-lasting commitment to passenger safety makes it one of the best brands to buy for individuals and families alike.
